P01-02: “Oshogatsu in Little Tokyo” New Year’s Day event will return to Little Tokyo on Jan. 1, 2022 after one year hiatus because COVID-19 pandemic. Organizer Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California will the venue from Weller Court to the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC) Plaza this year. Additionally, for the first time ever there will be a New Year’s Eve event on the day before at the JACCC Plaza. Detail schedule is posted at https://LAJapan.com
P03: Los Angeles-based theatre company Grateful Crane which consists of all local talents, has brough memories of the Japanese American Community to live performances since 2001. To mark the 20th anniversary of the Grateful Crane, the anniversary video was produced and premiered on Nov. 29 on YouTube. The video is available for viewing through the end of December 2021.
P04: Multi-talented artist Mariko Watabe has lectured about the percussion of the Kabuki music over a year in the Weekly Cultural News. The 77th article focuses on the Yamatogaku song “ Hokusai’s Edo Prints” or Edo Furyu. This is a first half of the lesson.
AD: The Worldwide Uchinanchu Festival is held every five years in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture for the Okinawan descendants worldwide. The 7th Festival will be held from Oct. 31 through Nov. 3, 2022, Okinawa specialist and veteran tour operator Uyehara Travel in Los Angeles will organize the Okinawa tour to coincide with the 7th Worldwide Uchinanchu Festival in 2022.
P05: Shinto Shrine of Shusse Inari in America is the American branch of the Shusse Inari in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. Shusse Inari has set up booth in the Japanese New Year’s Day event in Little Tokyo for several years. This year, Shusse Inari will return to Little Tokyo after one year hiatus, and is looking to volunteers for Dec. 31 and Jan 1 rituals at the JACCC Plaza in Little Tokyo.
P05: Cultural News Association is organized to support for publishing Cultural News and other public program. The non-profit is raising $30,000 fund very years. As the year of 2021 is coming to end, Cultural News Association again asks the public to send donations to Cultural News.
