The Pacific Research Institute (PRI) is a Japan–U.S. media center established in South Pasadena, California, by Tato Takahama, who has served as a Washington correspondent for Yomiuri Shimbun, a senior political reporter assigned to the Prime Minister’s Office, and a Teaching Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
Building on an intellectual network spanning major hubs including Washington, New York, Boston, Berkeley, and Tokyo, PRI works in close collaboration with university professors, diplomats, policy researchers, and active journalists. By integrating primary-source information with specialized expertise, the institute provides multifaceted and strategic analysis focused on U.S.–Japan relations, international politics, economics, and national security.
Grounded in on-the-ground perspectives and institutional insight, PRI delivers in-depth reports to leading Japanese media outlets and online platforms. It functions as a high-density information platform serving policymakers and informed audiences.
